Ho Chi Minh City, April 8, 2020 – VietnamWorks, the biggest online recruitment website, belonging to Navigos Group, has just released The Report of Online Recruitment Market Full-Year 2019 in Vietnam. The statistics presented in the report are analyzed based on applications submitted at VietnamWorks and surveyed for both employers and candidates
I. OVERVIEW OF THE ONLINE RECRUITMENT DEMAND IN 2019 ON VIETNAMWORKS
In the last 3 years, the demand of recruiting experienced candidates continues to increase
According to the statistics on VietnamWorks, the demand for online recruitment in Vietnam from the beginning of 2015 to the end of 2019, has reached a growth rate of 55% and the recruitment demand in the upcoming years is forecasted to increase continuously. In 2019, the rate of recruitment about Experienced positions is highest with 73%; Manager level with 17%, Fresh graduate takes 7%, the Director and above positions take the lowest rate of recruitment, only 3%
The possibility of labor shortage in high-growth industries
Top 3 industries with the highest recruitment demand are: Sales, Finance/ Investment and Administrative/ Clerical respectively. These industries also led in the number of applications applied in 2019. However, there was a slight difference in the ranking when Administrative/ Clerical was leading compared to the number of applications, while the Sales industry was the leading about the number of job postings. Thus, there is likely to be a slight difference between recruitment needs and labor supply in these two industries.
Besides that, 3 industries have high growth rates in recruitment demand such as Planning/ Projects, Customer Service, Product/ Process with strong growth rates of 17%, 13% and 13% respectively. But there is a high possibility that there will be a shortage of labor in the Customer Service and Product/ Process because they are not in the Top 3 industries with the growth rate of Labor Supply such as: Banking, Planning/ Projects, Advertising/ Promotion/ PR.
Cities nearby large urban centers increased their recruitment demand
As the information from VietnamWorks, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi has always been the leading city in the number of job postings for many years, followed by the provinces like Binh Duong, Da Nang, Dong Nai…
Overcoming these cities, the new economic areas have grown dramatically in recruitment demand in the past 1 year. Accordingly, the growth rate of Ba Ria – Vung Tau is 29%, Dong Nai 20% and Bac Ninh 14%. This shows the spread of jobs to the surrounding areas of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are getting bigger.
II. THE ONLINE LABOR SUPPLY COMPARE TO THE RECRUITMENT DEMAND
Employment opportunities have become more open for workers in 2019
According to statistics from VietnamWorks’ application file, the online labor supply nationwide during the five years from the beginning of 2015 to the end of 2019 reached an increase of 45% but has not reach the rate of demand for employment (55%), so there will be a shortage of talent in some industries. However, this can be seen as a positive aspect because workers will have higher job opportunities and lower competition rates.
“Supply – demand” have not caught up with the growth in some industries
When comparing the Top 3 industries with outstanding growth in Labor Supply 2019 with the Top 3 industries with high growth in Recruitment Demand 2019, there are some signs of overbalance and shortage of manpower as follows:
There are signs of oversupply of human resources in some industries such as Banking, Advertising/Promotion/PR and labor shortage in Customer Service and Product/Process industries. Accordingly, the top 3 growth sectors in terms of Recruitment Demand in 2019 are: Planning/Project, Customer Service, Product/Process and the Top 3 industries with outstanding growth in Labor Supply, respectively are: Project planning, Advertising/ Promotion/PR.
In terms of the shortage of human resources in some fields, notably the industries: IT, Electrical/ Electronics when these two industries are in the Top 10 industries with the highest Recruitment Demand in 2019 but not in the Top 10 industries with high Labor Supply.
Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Da Nang have grown rapidly in terms of labor supply
Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi City have always been the leaders in the number of applications for many years and proved their position in the labor market. However, in the past one year, Ba ria – Vung Tau, Dong Nai and Da Nang have surpassed two big cities and become the places of outstanding growth in the number of applications with an increasing growth rates are 26%, 12% and 11%.
Besides that, although it is not leading in the number of applications applied on VietnamWorks, but according to the overall growth momentum of the period from 2015 – 2019, the place leading in the growth rate is Quang Nam province when the number of applications here have increased steadily and nearly tripled within 5 years.
III. ANALYZE THE JOB SEARCH BEHAVIOR OF CANDIDATES
Differences in job exploration needs among industry groups
According to the statistics, candidates of industries such as: Electrical/ Electronics, Product/Process, Administrative/Clerical always maintain the need of finding high positions during 4 quarters and the industries that have less candidates searching about new job positions are: IT, Marketing, Sales.
During the first quarter, the time after Lunar New Year always reach highest number of job posting views in all industries which have high recruitment demand and the fourth quarter is considered as the least exciting time when all industries posting jobs attract few views.
Groups of mid-level and above levels are less likely to search for jobs online
When comparing about Job search behavior, it can be seen that the group of Director and above levels has less need to looking for online jobs than other candidate groups, because from Director position upwards, recruitment will be performed through Navigos Search’s Search and Selection service.
The Job views have been extremely high in Hai Phong and Hai Duong City
In major cities such as Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, all job posting views increase in the first quarter and decrease significantly in quarter 4, middle months maintain stable job searching views and tend to decrease towards the end of the year. Especially in Da Nang, Quarter 3 increase rapidly in job search behavior, showing that workers also catch up with recruitment needs and career opportunities opened here due to the increased sharply FDI inflows into Da Nang in 2019.
The statistics show that two key industrial cities of the North are Hai Phong and Hai Duong, lead in job search behavior views in Quarter 1/2019, showing that the first 3 months of the year are the time that Job seekers tend to be most likely to search for jobs related to the Manufacturing Industry.
